Wellness Center

Under New Business, Doreen Caquelin discussed a possible location for a proposed wellness center. This proposed facility ideally would have healthcare services, indoor pool, fitness facilities, physical therapy, etc. It will be built from the ground up.

“We are asking if you would be willing to lease us land in the park or elsewhere in town for a minimal cost,” said Caquelin. “Without a yes or no, we can’t move forward.”

For example half of the green space at the park could be used for the wellness center.

The next step will be bringing in an architect through a planning grant who can evaluate different proposed sites, Caquelin said. By asking for the town’s lease approval, it doesn’t guarantee the park will be the final site, but it broadens the committee’s ability to search for and submit grants, she said.

A town vote could take place prior to construction if the town is not in favor of the Stanford Park as a location. The town’s approval at this meeting was to allow the Wellness Committee to proceed with hiring an architect and applying for grants, for example, explained Cacquelin.

The council approved this lease request via a motion that passed 3-0.
